After arriving in St. Louis at around 6:30 am local time, the Blues still had a game to play tonight. Even though they had plenty of leg through the first two periods, the Blues ran out of gas and were shut down by the Sharks 2-1.
Patrik Berglund scored the loan goal for the Blues. Tallies from Joe Thornton and Tim Kennedy helped the Sharks win for the first time in February while the Blues dropped their fifth straight at home. The Blues had plenty of chances to score, but Antti Niemi had other ideas. He managed to stop all but one of the 26 shots that he faced. On the other side Jake Allen kept up his solid performance in net. The second of two goals was a soft one, but you have to believe that at some point fatigue was going to set in for even Allen.
Observations
Chris Stewart continues to impress. Despite having a down season last year, I am impressed with this new and improved attitude that he seems to have.
Vladimir Sobotka seems to be able to play with anyone on the team. His determination has always been there. I think it’s a little more evident this year, as Coach Hitchcock has been able to play all four lines equally.
Power play going 0-3 may seem bad but it’s really not. The fact that they have been lights out this first part of the year is what makes that stand out a little bit more than usual.
The fourth line has been spectacular. They’ll need to be as the Blues head right back out on the road to face the Avalanche. Hopefully they wont have any charter issues this time….
Your three stars were:
1) Vladimir Sobotka 2) Antti Niemi 3) Jake Allen
