Jake Allen, Andy McDonald, and even Berglund’s backside were a part of what was a crazy game Sunday night. The Blues capped off what was an amazing 3 game road stand with a 4-3 SO win.
Allen, who stopped 18 of his 28 shots faced in the third period alone, was solid in net. Something that, I hate to say it, was lacking with Elliott. The late third period goal didn’t even seem to phase him. That was made evident to me when he made a beauty of a save on the Burrows breakaway in OT. Speaking of goalies… How about Oshie making Luongo a statue on that shootout goal? I don’t want to imply that Lu simply gave up, but man that was nasty. Getting back to Allen, one thing is clear… we might be seeing more of him sooner than later. Which at this point wouldn’t be so bad if he keeps playing the way that he is.
Andy McDonald, T.J. Oshie, and Berglund/Sobotka were the goal scorers for the Blues. I say Berglund/Sobotka on the 3rd period goal, because well, Bergie took on off of the backside and it went in. Sobotka was originally credited with the goal. I give them both credit: 1/2 a goal awarded to each of them. Did anyone see Bergie leading the team in goals at this point? Yeah, me either. All three of the top lines scored, which is also pretty refreshing to see.
It was a total team effort. Don’t get me wrong: this team still needs to improve in some areas, but they are getting there. The PK comes to mind as improving. They had to kill off a 5 on 3 at one point in the third. They came up with the big kill when they needed to. Granted just a few moments later they gave up the game tying goal, but nevertheless at least the PK isn’t as bad as it had been in recent weeks.
Three Stars of the game were: H. Sedin, Oshie, and Raymond. Where is McDonald on this list? Did I miss something there?
Stat of the Night: The Blues only managed 3 shots in the third period. Gotta attribute that to Vancouver bringing on the pressure. And stupid penalties. Something else they might want to work on. Can’t keep doing that. But I’ll get of the Captain Obvious soap box now.
Next up the Blues return to St.Louis for a game against San Jose Tuesday night.
