The Setup
Tonight, the Predators head to St. Louis for the third match up between these two teams in less 3 weeks. So far, the Blues have come out on top in both meetings; beating the Preds 4-3 and 3-0. Can the Blues come out on top and make the record 3-0 against the team from Music City?
The Preds
The Predators started off the shortened season with a brief home opener pair, followed by a seven game road trip. Their last home game was against the Blues on January 21. Tonight is the last of their 7 game trip, and they will be playing just 2 of their next 9 games on the road. While the Predators may have started off a bit rocky, their 3-2-3 record shows that they aren’t going down without a fight. Goalie Pekka Rinne has allowed only 2 goals on 51 shots in the last 2 games. The Preds are coming into St. Louis feeling hot.
The Blues
The Blues are headed into tonight’s game with a 6-2-0 record. Their last game in Detroit was a major upset heard around the league with David Backes being called for a major penalty that was rescinded by the league the following day. The Blues ended up falling 5-3 t the Red Wings after that call.
Jaoslav Halak was injured in Detroit; he suffered a groin injury and left the game. Brian Elliott has stepped into the role of starting goaltender, and Jake Allen has been called up from the Rivermen to serve as backup. (StLToday)
The Blues are also making headlines of a more positive kind: Vladimir Tarasenko has been named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for January 2013. You can get more information on this highly publicized rookie and what makes him so good in David Trigg’s latest post.
