Colaiacovo Nets OT Winner

Game #54 St. Louis Blues vs. Colorado Avalanche | February 11, 2012

Coming off a positive three game road trip, the St. Louis Blues returned home to fend off the Colorado Avalanche. Two goals from David Perron and an overtime winner by Carlo Colaiacovo won the game by a final of 3-2

Half way through the first Colorado took the lead. A blast off a quick face off win from Shane O’Brien barely squeaked by the screened Brian Elliott. The shot may have been deflected at the last moment by a Blues stick in front.

A rare power play goal by St. Louis tied the game minutes later. A strong corner battle allowed TJ Oshie to find Perron at the side of the net. Refusing to be denied Perron slammed the puck through Semyon Varlamov. With his eighth goal of the season, the Blues winger is starting to heat up and it did not take him long to get his ninth.

With a two man advantage, Alex Pietrangelo found Perron on the face off dot. The quick wrister found pay dirt with David Backes screening the Colorado keeper. His second power play goal of the game came gave the Blues the lead late in the first.

But with under a minute left former Blue Erik Johnson scored a power play goal to even the game. Just catching the inside of the post, the shot was in the perfect spot.

Four goals in the first led to a tight checking second and third period. The Blues brought their best in the third only to be denied repeatedly by Varlamov who finished stopping 41 of 44.

St. Louis picked up where they left the third period with more pressure in overtime. Pulling up feet from the blue line, Patrik Berglund sent a wrist shot in high that appears to have been deflected by Colaiacovo. The slight redirection beat Varlamov to secure another two points for the St. Louis Blues.
