Rivermen Report – What the Sterling call up means for the Blues
As per multiple sources it looks like the Blues have a need for the #2 scorer in the AHL and Brett Sterling is called up to STL.
What does this mean for the Blues?
- Sterling is a world class scoring talent. Currently #2 in the AHL. Consistently he is among the AHL leaders in scoring.
- He plays a high risk/high reward style game.
- Great finishing touch, and great hands
- He is, as part of his game, penalized often. It has been a problem for the Rivermen overall, but the upside is that he is usually making up for it with goals.
- He is undersized. I look at guys like Sterling and Mats Zuccarello in NYR/CT and I wonder if they have a spot in the modern NHL game. I think that if Sterling can stay out of the box and work his way into open ice he has the hands to finish a scoring play, but I wouldn’t count on him playing the body too much.
All in all there is upside to his call up to the Blues despite his size. I hope that you use him well, and if not can I have him back please?
