Blues to Host Salute to Armed Forces Night on November 10, 2011

At the November 10, 2011 game versus the Toronto Maple Leafs game, the Blues will host their annual Salute To America’s Veterans and Armed Forces Night.  During this evening, members of Operation Homefront will be collecting items for soldiers who are deployed.  Fans will also be able to sign cards to send with the care packages over seas.

Operation Homefront is looking for donations to be sent over in care packages, including:

  • Flashlights
  • Batteries
  • Hard Candy
  • Toothbrushes & Toothpaste
  • Fruit Snacks
  • Lotion
  • Baby Wipes
  • Eye Drops
  • Phone Cards

In addition to supplies, Operation Homefront will be collecting monetary donations for the troops.  To raise additional funds, a silent auction will be in place behind section 119.  This auction will include special edition camouflage warm up jerseys that will be “game worn” during warmups.  Fans can place their bid to help Operation Homefront, and take home a jersey!

Operation Homefront is a group that helps both military personnel who are deployed and the families of those who are left at home during deployment.  They help those overseas by making care packages with donated items to give the deployed soldiers the comforts of home they long for while overseas.  They help provide items, such as phone cards, to keep families in touch during long deployments.  Deployment can be hard on every person in the family, and can cause stress on the spouse who is remaining at home.  Operation Homefront helps these families when the unexpected comes up at home, such as car repairs, home repairs, home appliance replacement, and food assistance.  They also help provide monetary assistance for soldiers who come home wounded.  The assistance may help with medical bills, but it can also help with outfitting a home for a soldier who comes home from overseas with a disabling injury.  The group also hosts support groups for spouses whose partners come home wounded.  They can also award scholarships to the children of soldiers who are wounded.  While the military gives our soldiers some benefits during and after deployment, Operation Homefront fills in the gaps when needed.

All fans in attendance at the game will receive a Boeing Blues Military Poster (hopefully not cheesy like the Ford Calendars).

The November 10 game is also one of the Blues Military Appreciation Nights On Military Appreciation Nights, any member of the armed forces, active, retired, or reserve, can get discounted tickets for the game when purchased at the box office with their military id (no limit on number of tickets purchased).  The games are broken into “Bronze” and “Silver” categories, and mezzanine tickets are only $12 or $16 for these games.  This program is just another way that the Blues are saying thank you to our armed forces.

I'm a stay at home mom of a little hockey nut who started watching hockey in 2008. I love the pace of the game, the rough and tumble hits and fights, and, of course, the good looking and talented players.
