Video: Brian Elliott’s Amazing Save on Dan Boyle

During the third period of the Blues’ first road victory of the season, backup netminder Brian Elliott made the save of the season to preserve a 3-2 lead. Chris Stewart, sitting in the penalty box for a lazy stick infraction 200 feet away from Elliott’s cage, could probably be heard yelling thank you.

My first though watching this play develop was “why in the hell is Patrik Berglund on the ice”. Then my mind went to “why is he drifting in a straight line with TJ Oshie?” Next was “what are you doing Berglund?! You aren’t covering the passing lane!! Dan Boyle is wide open!!!” Finally, “holy cow, what a save”.

Elliott stopped 34 of 36 San Jose shots en route to his first win in his debut as a member of the Blues.

Too early for a goalie controversy? We’ll see after tomorrow night’s game in Anaheim.

  1. [...] Elliott‘s rock solid 34 save performance, one of which is the best so far this season, in San Jose Saturday night washed away the loss just wo nights before in Dallas. But that cannot [...]

  2. When watching a match, then thought, “Throw in one touch.” Boyle protracted at this momentas for me. Save was really good, but Boyle did not his best shot

  3. [...] What can be said about Brian Elliott‘s play so far? Not much other than, “wow”. He’s jumped out to a 3-0-0 start which has forced number one netminder Jaroslav Halak to the bench for the time being. He’s been clean and effective so far, but he has made several spectacular saves as well. The first is easily his best, robbing Dan Boyle on a third period power play with a sprawling glove save.
