Big Blues News: Perron Set to Rejoin Team Monday
A quiet close to the weekend for St. Louis Blues fans? General Manager Doug Armstrong will have nothing of it!
Surprise news came Sunday afternoon when Armstrong announced that he and injured forward David Perron will hold a press conference Monday morning at 11 am. The topic? That he will be rejoining the Blues effective Monday.
Rightfully so, excitement at the thought of a needed electric playmaker and consummate fan favorite returning from post concussion symptoms runs high. However, a little caution should be exercised in assessing what this development really means.
Perron hasn’t played a minute of hockey since the fateful game which San Jose Sharks captain Joe Thornton broke Rule 48 and delivered a blindside head shot on November 4th, 2010. It’s been nearly a year with out physical activity at even a maintenance level. He has endured a long road back to the game he lives and breathes. Monday is not the end of that journey, but a milestone making the path traveled.
Perron still must work himself back in to game shape.
How long will that take? There is no way of telling. As Armstrong told Post Dispatch beat writer Jeremy Rutherford back in August, patience will be excised greatly.
“Everyone is different, but we’re not going to put David in a position to fail. We’re going to put him in there when he’s ready.”
Hopefully he’s ready ASAP, but knowing a young man with a promising future will have a chance to reclaim it, is good enough for now.
