BlueNoteZone is Looking to Grow and for… You?
With the Blues roster virtually set heading in to training camp, team news will be pretty slow over the next few months. Unless Dave Checketts and TowerBrook cave to Matthew Hulsizer and accepts his value evaluation, but that’s another blog…I digress….
Now is a great time to let everyone know that BlueNoteZone is looking to expand. Not only in terms of content, but also in our writing staff.
So here is my sales pitch to fans who want to read more about the team we bleed blue for and for those who might be interested in joining the crew.
“I will pay you all in peanuts”
Doesn’t work? Yea, wouldn’t for me either. Let me try another way.
Below you will find a list of where BNZ is at now in terms of what we provide, where we’re looking to expand, and what we’re looking for in a potential staff writer. If my list format doesn’t draw you in, well… I understand. Lists aren’t too entertaining, but once again real life work rears its head to the blog…I digress…
Where BNZ is Today
- Founded in 2008 by Jeff Quirin on a WordPress sub-domain. In October 2009 converted over to BlueNoteZone.com w/ Co-Founders Mark Massa, Trevor Beaton and Randall Ritchey.
- We do not claim to be insiders. We’re not in to breaking trades, rumor creating, etc. Honestly, JR, Strick, Norm, Lou, etc… will always have us there. We’re here to provide honest fan opinion. Running the whole spectrum of Blues fans. Opinion and analysis of news and events is our game.
- We cover: Game Previews, Recaps, analysis of news stories, opinion pieces, information regarding the Blues from media outside St. Louis and a lot of goodies about pugilism(ists).
- Scott Neer of TSN Photograhy posts his Blue related hockey pictures on the BNZ Photos Page.
Where BNZ is Going
- Expanding coverage of the Blues AHL affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen and their ECHL affiliate, the Alaska Aces. We have an interested party for the Rivermen, but are still looking for someone to tackle the 2011 Kelly Cup winning Aces. Feel free to contact BNZ at thebluenotezone@yahoo.com for more info.
- Expand coverage of the other 29 NHL teams. Not just from our staff, but from bloggers of other teams looking to increase their visibility. If you’re a blogger from another team and are interested in distrubution, contact BNZ at thebluenotezone@yahoo.com.
- Adding coverage of local hockey. From high school to college to the Bandits and beyond.
- Introducing our BluesNut Program. Much like the Seed Program that some sites use (WoW Insider from Joystiq comes to mind), from time to time BNZ will post available writing assignments will be put out on the site for aspiring bloggers and POV sharers to put their creative juices to work. Maybe you can’t commit to being a full time writer, but you want to test the waters. Here is your chance. More details will be coming soon.
- A Blues Podcast. This idea was kicked around at the end of last season and its making a comeback. If you are interested in participating in a Blues themed podcast and have podcasting experience, drop BNZ a line at thebluenotezone@yahoo.com.
- Blue Bleeders: At BNZ we use the term a lot to describe our readrs, tweeps, fans, and all Blues fans in general. Coming soon is a page totally devoted to those folks. We’ll have invterviews and posts about the best fans in hockey as well as a gallery of fan submitted pics and much more. We’ll be announcing the details and launching the page soon.
- More Tweet-Ups. Our one and only last season was a success and we’re planning many more for the 2011-12 campaign. Look for one in August (a Pot-luck/grill-out) and one in September (right around training camp time) to get the season started.
- Even more Hockey Fights Cancer and Komen Race for the Cure promotion. The BNZ shirts, which raised well over $400 for breast cancer research, will be back. Looking at possibly a season long push. Contemplating BNZ Hats for the next Komen only fundraiser. That way we can all wear our Blues Shirts and BNZ gear in the Blues area.
Who is BNZ Looking For?
- Dedicated blue bleeders who are passionate about their team and their perspective.
- A willingness to commit to 3-5 posts per week during the season. Going above or below the goals is ok, just need to talk it out.
- An ability to write PG-13. We’ve all seen the growth of popularity with kids and the team. If someones child runs across the site, no one wants parents flipping out.
- An understanding of the fine line between criticism and attack. Criticism is strongly encouraged. Attacking is not.
- Assigments: Almost totally open at this point. Do you like talking about the future? Are you all about game preivews? Do you like analyzing the opponent? We do have a staff member dedicated to Charity work.
