Is it October yet?
The last few days have been some exciting times around the blues water cooler. With the signing of Jamie Langenbrunner and Jason Arnott the blues have added some veteran depth that has been lacking. Jason Arnott was on 101espn yesterday talking about how he is excited to be putting on the blue note and is ready to get back on the ice and be productive again all the while tugging the reigns on the young guys to keep them headed in the right direction. Arnott was cautious to state that he does not know many of the young guys in the locker room but was eager to get to work and start putting together a cohesive unit that can compete well each and every night. ” Playing for the Preds we saw St. Louis come in to town several times a year and we just hated playing against them because we new they would be a tough physical team to play against.” Jason also made mention that he is excited to play for St. Louis because they play the style of hockey that best suits his abilities and that is the style of hockey that is most fun for him. One thing that you have to give props for so far is the way Doug Armstrong has been able to make acquisitions with a cap floor cash strapped organization. It is no secret that the blues are a small market team with an ownership group that is looking to get out asap. I do have to extend a small thank you though for the current owners allowing Doug Armstrong to make the moves he has made to make this team a now hopefully solid playoff team. The games still have to be played and won but at this point there is more depth in blue then we have had in a very long time.
Every day I read different blogs, twitter feeds, posts and they all have a common theme it seems. When in the heck is it going to be October again? The fans of NHL hockey are truly some of the best sports fans in the entire world in any sport. Debating, heckling, joking, and laughing about what is next to come for their favorite team. It never ceases to amaze me at the loyalty and passion of true hockey fans. We as St. Louis Blues fans are lucky enough to have one of the best small market fan bases in the country. This areas blues fans truly bleed St. Louis blue for this team. When Doug Armstrong says the time to win is now… The time for rebuilding has passed… The fans of this team deserve a playoff winning team… I get a little smile on my face. I have much faith in DA… The man has shown he has fiscal restraint in terms of not overpaying for talent.. He shows that he is a good judge of character as well as finding people who want to compete and keep their game held to a high standard. Here in St. Louis we may never have a billionaire owner with money falling from his pockets.. but know this.. So long as the gentlemen in the front office keep doing what they are doing and drafting the way they have been drafting… There will be a party on market street one day in the not to distant future. Today is July 8th….. It is exactly 91 days until opening night against the Nashville Predators…. I will be there….. October can not come soon enough for this rabid blues fan… How bout you?
