Unscientific Stanley Cup Finals Prediction
We were treated to two solid Conference Finals series. My favorite part was the fact that both of the teams I picked to win their respective series went ahead and did just that.
Right on the money was my pick of the Bruins in 7 in what may have been one of the best and most intriguing series thus far in these Stanley Cup Playoffs (not to discredit the VAN-CHI or SJS-DET series). I was ONE measly game off on the Canucks series, as they decided to overachieve and take Game 5 at home to win the series instead of taking Game 6 in San Jose like I had predicted. So, yours truly went 2 for 2 in the Conference Finals phase of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoff Tournament, pushing the overall mark to 10 of 14. And considering how little thought I put into these picks, this is enough to make me wonder whether or not I should buy lottery tickets.
Now, the series all hockey fans DROOL over . . . THE STANLEY CUP FINALS! And a final reminder that all predictions are right or your money back!
STANLEY CUP FINALS
Matchup: Vancouver Canucks vs. Boston Bruins
Prediction: Canucks in 7
Synopsis: Full disclosure, for those that did not previously know: I have been rooting for the Boston Bruins HARD CORE for the length of these Stanley Cup Playoffs, so for me to pick the other side here is a bit painful, but required. I will continue to root for the B’s, but I just don’t think they have enough to push past arguably the best team in the National Hockey League all season. The Canucks, especially in their Western Conference Finals series with the Sharks, showed why they were winners of the President’s Trophy, firing on all cylinders offensively and getting great defense and goaltending. This is a team that is complete from goal line to goal line, while the Bruins are complete from goal line to red line and just have NOT gotten the whole power play thing figured out. I do expect the Bruins to make it a bit rough on the Canucks as they seem to be the more rugged team, but I do anticipate a Game Seven in Vancouver, one that the Canucks will win to give that franchise their first-ever Stanley Cup title in, ironically enough, their 40th season in existence. But if the Bruins win to take their first Cup title since 1972, I will not be very bent up about it, obviously.
This, to me, is about as intriguing a matchup as a hockey fan could ask for in the Stanley Cup Finals, and this was the matchup I totally expected to happen before the playoffs started (not to toot my own horn or anything). I, for one, am completely excited that it came to fruition like expected, and cannot wait to see this series. Hopefully you, fellow Blues fans, are able to enjoy this series as well.
And shortly after the Stanley Cup Finals are over, you will receive your post filled with every fight the Blues contested in this season. PINKY PROMISE!
