Jarome Iginla back on March 1st. His awesomeness destroyed last night's pic.
Question of the Day on Facebook
Our Facebook group has 223 Fans and we hope to add many more in our push to 300 so we can give away a BNZ Blues/Komen Sub Team T-Shirt. If more are going to “like” us, I thought as a blog site we need to give more of a reason to check us out on there.
Why not a Question of the Day?
I tried this a little on Twitter earlier this season and it seems like a good time to bring it back.
Today’s has been posted, asking “Who is the most important RFA for the Blues to re-sign this off season?“ TJ Oshie, Patrik Berglund, Roman Polak, Matt D’Agostini, Ben Bishop or Nikita Nikitin? Follow the link and make your pick.
The Blues Got Iginla’d
For some hockey players age means nothing. Jarome Iginla is certainly one such tough old cookie.
With Calgary’s window of opprtunity closing to catch the Chicago Blackhawks, the Flames captain said, “don’t worry boys, I got this.” Using his 1,000th career NHL point to prop up their chances for one more game. Sadly, this means that the Blues yet again coughed up another lead at home. This time blowing a 2-0 margin to Iginal’s line (mainly Alex Tanguay) and Mikka Kiprusoff.
World class players with tons of experience on their side usually win games when younger clubs with less high end skill can’t keep their foot on the pedal… or fail to put more than two pucks in the opposing net.
I’m not in the recapping mood so much today. Mainly because its beautiful outside and well, Tyler and I had far too many adult beverages in the Club seats last night. PLlenty of #SirJaxx hash-tagging was to be had let’s just say and leave it at that.

Will add that it was nice to see Alex Steen and Barret Jackman back in action. Barret apparently didn’t get the memo that you can’t extend your arms to drive someone in a vulnerable position in to the boards. Dumb penalty and just one of 5 the Blues took. Yes, they killed them, but that meant 10 minutes of the game was spent killing penalties and not attacking in the offensive zone. Against Kipper, you need all the chances you can get.
Kudos to Inglorious Captain American (David Backes). He scored his 100th career goal last night. See the game highlights and his goal:
No Fight Card today… no fights…
Rivermen Win a Big One & Add A Hobey Baker Finalist
The Peoria Rivermen were in San Antonio last night, continuing their fight to make the Calder Cup playoffs. Nick Drazenovic had two goals, including the winner in a 3-2 OT victory. Putting the Rivs two points ahead of the Rampage. According to the AHL’s Playoff Primer for today the Rivermen currently hold the final spot in the Western Conference bracket and are tied with the Oklahoma City Barons with 85 points. Both are one point behind the Chicago Wolves.
As the Blues have struggled with injures so have the Rivermen. They’re always seeking fresh bodies and recently added forward and Hobey Baker finalist Chase Polacek to an amateur tryout contract (ATO). He met up with the team in San Antonio. The 21 year old just completed his senior season at RPI. In 37 games he lead the team in goals (21) and points (48) and lead all of college hockey with 9 game winners. He was also named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. All tolted in his college career Polacek has 162 points in 158 games. Fun fact: He played high school hockey with another recent Rivermen addition, Jay Barriball. The ATO could lead to a contract with the Blues or Rivermen for next season.
