Throwdown Lowdown – Coyotes @ Blues, 01-10-11

BizNasty

So, because of a family wedding, I missed the 2-1 Blues loss to the New York Rangers.  But when I have to miss a game, I always look at the box score for fights, and I was hoarked that there were none to be had.  Then I found out that Sean Avery got the game-winner, and I was even MORE pissed.  But such is life.  Anyway, the Blues remain tied for third in the NHL with 37 fighting majors, and that fight record hangs tight at 17-11-9.

If you feel like it was just yesterday that the Blues played the Phoenix Coyotes . . . well, it WAS about a week and a half ago (December 31st, to be exact).  We also covered the ‘Yotes back on November 13th as well.  As you’ll see, it’s basically Paul “BizNasty” Bissonnette and a bunch of posers, and your description of the fighting this team is done with that assessment.  The Coyotes are currently 24th by themselves with 14 fights on the season with a fight record of 6-4-4.  If you remember correctly – or, if you clicked on the December 31st report – that was the exact same fight total and fight record as they had LAST time the Blues played the ‘Yotes.  When nothing changes, things stay the same.  And now that we’re nine days into 2011, these Desert Dogs need to get into the punching season, I do declare.

There’s no need to recap the fighters again, but I will anyway: Bissonnette (6’3”, 220lbs, 5-3-0 including a win over Cam Janssen) leads the team with eight fights.  The other six fights were each by different fighters – Derek Morris (6’0”, 221lbs, Win), Vernon Fiddler (6’0”, 200lbs, Draw), captain Shane Doan (6’1”, 228lbs, Draw), Sami Lepisto (6’0”, 190lbs, Draw), Ed Jovanovski (6’3”, 218lbs, Draw) and Taylor Pyatt (6’3”, 232lbs, Loss).

Now, in that December 31st game, Janssen seemed to follow BizNasty around like a rabid dog trying to get him to fight.  I can’t promise he’ll do it again, but you’ve gotta believe it MIGHT go down like that a second time.  Also, Jovanovski tried to start something with Brad Winchester last time as well.  Will they finish the job?  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

STOP THIS DAMN LOSING STREAK, AND DO IT NOW!

LET’S GO BLUES!!!!!
