Throwdown Lowdown – Blues @ Blackhawks – 11-30-10

Do not mess with John Scott. Image via “The Blaze”, oddly enough
A correction of note from the previous edition – it seems the voters gave Eric Brewer a slight edge in his fight Friday night with Steve Ott. So it is voted, so it is done – a win for Captain Roboto instead of a draw! A corrected fight record reflecting this win will be seen below.
Regardless of that, the Blues finished a disheartening home-and-home with a lethargic third period and a 2-1 home loss to the Dallas Stars. One incident drew my eye, though – of course, it was the fight between Cam Janssen and Brian Sutherby. Some who watched the fight would give it a draw, but if you watched closely, you’ll have seen that after about 15 seconds, Sutherby wasn’t really interested in taking on Janssen and Janssen slowly-but-surely took over. A victory for Janssen was given in the voting, and rightfully so. The Blues season fight record, taking into account the above correction and the Janssen fight, is now a robust 12-6-5 on the season. Their 23 fights ties them for fourth in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks.
I’ve pretty much made it very well known around these parts that while the Chicago Blackhawks do not like to fight in general, they WILL drop the gloves with division opponents . . . especially the Blues. So once again, disregard the fact that the Hawks have only fought 11 times this season, good for a tie for 19th in the NHL with the Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets. It almost makes me wish the Blues and Blackhawks were still playing in the Saint Louis Arena and Chicago Stadium respectively, just to recreate that old atmosphere of physical hockey. But I digress. Anyway, Chicago’s fight record on the season is a respectful 5-3-3.
One Hawk to be very careful of, and he’s really hard to miss at his size, is John Scott. See that picture above? Here’s the video of that incident. He WILL hurt people. Brad Winchester, you fought with Scott earlier this year (here’s video proof). Are you LISTENING?! If he makes an empty rifle joke, skate on by. JUST DON’T FIGHT THIS MAN!
Since the Blues haven’t locked horns with the Hawks in a bit over a month, we’ll skip posting to the latest report on these two teams and just go through all of Chicago’s fighters thus far in 2010-2011. This should be easy considering they have only fought 11 times. The leader is Jacob Dowell (6’0”, 199lbs, 2-2-0, including a loss to BJ Crombeen) with four. The aforementioned Scott (6’8”, 258lbs, 3-0-0) has three. Bryan Bickell (6’4”, 223lbs, Draw . . . with David Backes), Jack Skille (6’1”, 215lbs, Draw), Nick Boynton (6’1”, 218lbs, Draw) and Troy Brouwer (6’2”, 214lbs, Loss) round out the Blackhawks fight card with one each.
I don’t care who fights for the Blues, but if any of them try to go at it with Scott, I may lose it. Go smaller . . . think Winchester vs. Bickell or Dowell in a rematch with Crombeen . . . perhaps Dowell and Janssen, which might be a lovely even match.
It’s another home-and-home! But not really. But technically. Ahhh, whatever, let’s sweep the next two-in-two, boys! AND BEAT THE HAWKS!
LET’S GO BLUES!!!!!
