Throwdown Lowdown – Blues @ Avalanche – 11-15-10

Chris Stewart

As long as he’s not playing the Blues, I really like this Chris Stewart character. Image via Yahoo! Sports

So, y’know how I called for a fight involving Paul Bissonnette on Saturday?  Well, damnit if I don’t get my way for once!  During Saturday’s 5-3 Blues loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, “BizNasty” did indeed get into it with Cam Janssen.  Unfortunately for Blues fans, CamSmash failed the test miserably.  Seriously, this Bissonnette kid is really good at fighting.  This brings the Blues to 17 fights on the season – good currently for a tie for fourth in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins – and their fight record drops to 7-5-5.  Video of the BizNasty-CamSmash tilt is here.  It wasn’t even close.

The Colorado Avalanche have a good young nucleus – one that, with some added veteran talent plucked from places here and there, made the playoffs last year.  I think they’ll do it again this year.  Colorado has fought 11 times on the season, good for a tie for 15th in the NHL with the Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks.  They are 4-3-4 in those 11 fights.

Colorado’s leading fighter is the venerable Cody McLeod (6’2”, 210lbs, 2-1-1) with four fights on the season.  Following him are seven guys who have each fought only once – Ryan Wilson (6’1”, 207lbs, Win), David Liffiton (6’2”, 210lbs, Win), noted Blues killer Chris Stewart (6’2”, 228lbs, Draw), Brandon Yip (6’1”, 195lbs, Draw), Captain Adam Foote (6’2”, 220lbs, Draw), Philippe Dupuis (6’0”, 196lbs, Loss) and John-Michael Liles (5’10”, 185lbs, Loss).

Stewart beats the Blues at hockey, fights and life, so even though I really like the guy, I really don’t want to see a fight with him tonight.  I would love to see McLeod go at it with someone – perhaps BJ Crombeen?  We’ll see.  But it seems likely a fight will happen in this game.

TIME TO SNAP THIS LOSING STREAK, BOYS!  GET IT DONE!

LET’S GO BLUES!!!!!
