Throwdown Lowdown – Blues @ Coyotes – 11-13-10

Paul Bissonnette

Holy crap, it’s a LOSING STREAK!  I’m not used to this!  TRADE EVERYONE!  (Uhhhhh, sarcasm, folks.)

There were no fights in the Blues’ 3-2 shootout loss to the Predators on Thursday, which gives me time to give you a recap of all the fights I was too pissed off to tell you about on Thursday morning from Wednesday’s 8-1 demolishing by the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Through all that pomp and circumstance on the ice, only two fights were registered – both in the third period after the game was well out of hand.  First, recent call-up Nathan Oystrick worked a draw with Chris Clark in a good fight.  Then late in the game, Derek Dorsett bit off just a little more than he could chew in getting defeated by BJ Crombeen in another solid fight.  The Blues stand in fourth place in the NHL with 16 fights with a record of 7-4-5.  Click on each link for a YouTube video of each fight.

The Phoenix Coyotes rose to success last season behind the leadership of Dave Tippett, playing in a style that’s successful in the Western Conference – play smart, play tough, play physical.  This year, they’ve slid back slightly playing pretty much the same style.  But it is early yet.  While they don’t fight as much as I’d like, they do not mind dropping the gloves, and it’s mostly due to one man, whom you’ve probably already seen but we’ll get to later.  This season, the ‘Yotes have only contested in five fights – tied for 24th with the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens – not registering a loss as of yet (2-0-3).  They pick their spots and choose very well.

Two of the fights were contested by the Greatest Twitterer in the NHL, Paul “BizNasty” Bissonnette (6’3”, 220lbs, 2-0-0, click his name for the most epic Twitter account ever).  The other three fighters have been Vernon Fiddler (6’0”, 200lbs, Draw), Captain Shane Doan (6’2”, 224lbs, Draw, sidelined indefinitely with the dreaded “Upper Body Injury”) and Sami Lepisto (6’0”, 190lbs, Draw).

Even though I’ll happen to not be able to watch this game, I really want to see BizNasty fight.  Obviously, he would need to not be in the owner’s box first, but we’ll see what happens.  Size-wise, Bissonnette would be an OK match-up with Crombeen (although this might be about the time The Beej gets it fed to him) but a matchup with someone like Cam Janssen – who has been getting a lot of playing time with all the injuries lately – would probably give him a more spirited contest.  Either way, I’d be happy to see that post-fight clip – win, lose or draw.

Time to shrug off the injuries and get things done.  It starts on the road.

LET’S GO BLUES!!!!!
