Q’s Cuties: Blues vs Flyers 10-9

Welcome to tonight’s Cutie Watch!  I’ll be at the game tonight- Follow me on Twitter for updates on tonight’s game and featured Cuties: @StayAtHomeDMom.  Tonight’s game kicks off a much anticipated season.  Will the young guys continue to prove themselves?  Will Halak push the Blues to the playoffs?  Will the team have a new look under Davis Payne that they couldn’t pull off under Any Murray?  Only time will tell, but I have already had friends tell me “this is our year!”….. I’ll reserve that judgment until after I see how the Blues perform.

Tonight the Blues debut their official roster:  Pietrangelo and Strachan have found permanent spots on the team. Strachan will be sitting tonight’s game out, but look for the new defensemen to fill the holes that the Blues defense needed patched.  Here’s who my eye will be on tonight:

Cutie with an Attitude

Cam Janssen #55:  Cam is a home-town favorite.  Fans love his infectious attitude, and his right hook.  I love the body beneath the jersey.  The Blues and the Flyers have been advertised as fierce rivals, and hopefully that means we will see Cam throw down the gloves during the home opener.  I’m hoping for a brawl that allows me a good view of Cam re-positioning his pads in the penalty box.  Also, watch for Cam’s hits for tonight: every hit he makes this season will give $25 to charity (see my previous article for more info and links to the charity).  I’m hoping for lots of hits to benefit families of injured veterans this season!

Flyers Cutie to Watch: The Flyers are coming off a big win over the Penguins in their season opener.  Tonight, the Blues need to stop the momentum and gain some of their own for the start of the season.

This Cutie was HOT in a win over the Pens Thursday

Claude Giroux #28, Right Wing:  Giroux may not be the cutest player on the Flyers roster, but his performance against the Penguins Thursday was HOT!  Giroux scored the game winning goal short handed on Fleury in the third period to push the Flyers to victory.  If his trend from the playoff continues, Halak and the Blues defense need to keep their eyes on this winger: he accumulated 21 points (10 G and 11 A) in his 23 playoff games last season.

**Correction:  The Flyers have now released their starting lineup for tonight, and Giroux is listed as playing on the third line as a center.

I'm a stay at home mom of a little hockey nut who started watching hockey in 2008. I love the pace of the game, the rough and tumble hits and fights, and, of course, the good looking and talented players.
