Ten Questions about the 2010-11 St. Louis Blues, Part 2

Earlier this summer the BlueNoteZone Staff was asked to answer 10 questions regarding the 2010-11 St. Louis Blues. Here are their answers.

Question 8.Will the Blues miss DJ King?

Jeff Quirin: No – Teams with high skill levels win games through competing physically without “killing” the other team physically. Janssen, Crombeen, Winchester, Backes, Jackman, and Strachan can all fight in the right situation and handle themselves well. A roster spot is now opened for someone who can play 10-12 minutes a night versus 3-5 minutes.

Randall Ritchey: No – With Boogaard, Shelley, Orr, and all the super heavy-weights over in the East, I think Bam Bam will be able to handle the guys left in the West.

DJ King

Tyler Atwood: No – I will miss him, but the team will not. His job had pretty much been given to the likes of Cam Janssen and BJ Crombeen anyway, and both those guys can skate well enough to justify getting more than 5 minutes a night.

Stephanie Phillips: No -DJ King really didn’t play much last year and when he did, he didn’t make much of an impact. Blues fans LOVE Cam Janssen (especially with his hometown connection and his enthusiasm) and he’s still feared around the league.

Kelly Quirin: Yes – I think they will miss the type of game that King could play vs the game that Janssen plays. However, I think Janssen can excel under a different coaching style. Also, King proved to be a liability in his tough game when he injured himself for the second time fighting.

Question 7. Brad Boyes…back to 30+ goals?

Jeff Quirin: No, he won’t. Don’t take that as a bad thing. Brad has offensive skill, no doubt, but he is too relient on other players to create chances and those other players are finishing the chances Brad once lived off of. His bread adn butter on the power play is also going away as other threats on the power play improve. Brad is a 20-25 goal scorer, just not over 30.

Brad Boyes

Randall Ritchey: I think Boyes will jump back to 30 at least. Possibly more. I think Perron will jump up and be a top play maker on this team and feeding Boyes and Berglund, Boyes will be able to notch at least 30 again.

Tyler Atwood: Yes. He must, if the Blues expect to go anywhere this season. And with a looming contract situation, he will come up VERY big in the goal-scoring department. No more Brad “Ten Effin’ Feet Wide Of The Net” Boyes.

Stephanie Phillips: I expect Boyes to work extremely hard this offseason to be back up to form.

Kelly Quirin: Probably, but I think the guy is overrated.
