The more I think about the situation on defense, the more I like the following scenario.
Cole takes the #1defenseman role in Peoria.
Pietrangelo is on the St. Louis roster on the third pairing and power play.
Nikitn and Strachan fight it out for who fills in for Colaiacovo depending on the length of his injury.

Will a solid KHL season from Tarasenko make Brad Boyes expendable? His $4 million could go to securing four very important free agents next summer. Walt in to Sibir’s season the organizations top forward prospect is doing well.

As much as I like Backes at Center, I really looked forward to seeing him on the wing. Using his size and speed to more aggressively forecheck would be a big bonus. I think it can still happen, just depends how long Perron and Boyes stick with Backes on a line.
Berglund really needs to get rolling early and force his way in to the top centerman role. Frees up Backes for a trial at wing.
Never thought I would be for that experiment, but I want to see it now.

Over the last few months I have had more and more contact with those involved with the New York Islanders. I just feel bad for them losing Streit and Okposo. Hate seeing good young teams held back by injury. Lived it as a Blues fan and wouldn’t wish it on anyone…except maybe Hawks fans. [Hockey Independent]

These are just general “what ifs” and “just sayin’s”. I am in no way implying that I have insider information.
Mottau to the Islanders wipes out any further trade discussion? Possibly. The Islanders could use a filler for Okposo and the Devils need to move a forward. I can think of a certain US Olympian not named Parise who could lend a good amount of veteran experience to a very young roster. That is if the Avalanche don’t grab him first.
Question: Jaroslav Halak has only appeared in one game so far this preseason. In that game he allowed three goals on 18 shots. Is there cause for alarm?
