Blues Trade Hannu Toivonen

The St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks announced a trade today.

Pretty strange. Yes, I know.

The teams agreed to swamp AHL goalies and move a defensemen. Here is how it shakes out.

To Chicago’s AHL Affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs:
Goalie – Hannu Toivonen
Defenseman – Danny Richmond

To St. Louis’ AHL Affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen:

Goalie – Joe Fallon

Andy Strickland reported that Defenseman Daryl Boyle was also involved in the deal. The Blues did not announce this, but he is on the Rivermen’s roster on www.rivermen.net.

There really isn’t much to this deal, at least from a Blues point of view. They use Toivonen to secure another young goalie in the system and Danny Richmond was not a factor in the teams NHL plans. Where this could have some impact is for Chicago. The deal brings them a goalie with some NHL experience. Assuming a trade is made in Chi Town by the deadline, they may need someone like Toivonen to start in Rockford. Current Starter Corey Crawford has been rumored to be involved in the Hawks trade plans.

I don’t think the Blues are done by any stretch. Keep an eye out over the next few days.

  1. Fallon has some potential to be a number two in this league. Other than that, not much to this deal.
