Blues Prospect Defensemen Alex Pietrangelo
Per Sportsnet in Canada, Blues Prospect Defensemen Alex Pietrangelo has been traded from the Niagara Ice Dogs to the Barrie Colts.
It has been rumored for a while that the Blues wanted Pietrangelo traded away from the Ice Dogs if he returned to Juniors this season. There was legitimate cause for concern that with the Dogs struggling that Alex may pick up on some bad habits. Following the WJC, Blues Insider Andy Strickland postulated that a trade was looming since Pietrangelo was being returned to Juniors.
While the best place for Alex to be is in the AHL, playing for a playoff contender back in the OHL isn’t such a bad thing. Hockey in Canada is life and even at the junior level the games are intense and serious. Alex will be challenged to continue his solid offensive play and improve his defensive play from the World Junior Championships.
Do not fret Blues fans, Alex will be just fine. The Blues are lucky enough to have enough depth on the blue line from St. Louis to Peoria to not have to rush Alex when they don’t have to.
