Blues Prospect to wear the “A” for Team USA at WJC?

It appears that Blues Prospect and 2008 NHL Draft 4th Round selection David Warsofsky has been named an Assistant Captain for Team USA at the 2010 World Junior Championships.

So far this has just been reported on Twitter by Tim RosenthalWarsofsky who covers BU for Inside Hockey. Rosenthal is citing The Daily Free Press (a BU Newspaper) his source although I cannot find any article or update from their website.

The Daily Free Press does have nice write up on Warsofsky and his sophomore season. The full article can be found here. Here is what BU Coach Jack Parker said of Warsofsky.

“Warsofsky didn’t even play on the power play last year. He would have been running anyone else’s power play in the nation. But he was a real good teammate about that.”

“He’s not thoroughly impressed with himself. He works hard, makes an effort school-wise, makes a great effort to be in good shape and he has a lot of pure talent.”…

“I think David Warsofsky is going to have a good chance to play in the NHL because of the way the game’s played now. If it was 10 years ago, no one would look at him. But now-a-days, you can be a small defenseman because you have to play defense with your feet and your head now, and not with your hands, muscling a guy.”

Warsofsky continues to gain experience at higher levels of competition and appears to be doing well assuming more responsibility at BU. Blues fans should keep an eye out for the East Coast puck mover.

Warsofsky’s statistics are available here. Through 13 games played he has 4 goals and 8 points.
